Grasses are a wonderful addition to our landscapes. They add movement, texture and color.
Remember to cut back grasses in the early spring, the fresh new growth will emerge quickly. Once established, grasses are drought tolerant.
While you are visiting us be sure to wander back to the ornamental grasses and see the handsome tree sculpture.
Our landmark Bur Oak sculpture commemorates Irish immigrants, John Smith and Elizabeth Ryan Smith, who homesteaded this site in 1850. These pioneers undertook the task of removing the oaks to plant farm crops. It was a very slow process since the only available tool was an axe. The Bur Oaks at Highland Nursery are likely saplings that they preserved.
