DO YOU AGREE……..?
"Highland Nursery is NOT the best use of this land." -Commercial Property Appraiser, Ramsey County Assessor's Office.

Our business revenue does not justify or support the property tax assessment we now pay. Because of our land's size, we alone pay the property taxes usually absorbed by 5-10 small businesses.

Due to three recent land sales in this area, we are considered a "hot real estate market" and the estimated market value on all our property is projected to increase another 40%. This is on top of the '07-'08 800% increase on the Albion property that serves as our overflow parking area and the 120% additional increase for '08-'09. Plus there's a 100% land increase on 1770 West Seventh Street (the new area) for '08-'09!

According to the Commercial Property Appraiser for Ramsey County, we are a "victim of market forces."

JUST THINK...... If we were taxed at the same estimated market value per square foot as dozens of other West 7th Street properties, we could afford to stay here.

BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE….. We want our customers to be informed about the huge property tax burden we are facing before we are forced to close shop (much like Lyndale Garden Center and Forepaugh's had to do). Our elected officials have no viable solutions.

The Ramsey County Assessor's Office has stated that the "best use" of our land would be for office buildings or a Walgreens, thus justifying the estimated market value they have placed on the property. In other words, in their eyes tax dollars are more important than the value of our business to the community.

Help us by letting these officials know what you think the "best use" of our treasured green space with its historic oak trees would be or why you feel, as a Highland customer, that our nursery is uniquely important to the community.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
Sue and Teri
