JOHN & ELIZABETH SMITH
Our landmark Bur Oak sculpture commemorates Irishimmigrants, John Smith and Elizabeth Ryan Smith, who homesteaded this site in 1850. These pioneers undertook the task of removing the oaks to plant farm crops. It was a very slow process since the only available tool was an axe. The Bur Oaks at Highland Nursery are likely saplings that they preserved.

Surrounding the tree sculpture you will find our many varieties of hardy Ornamental Grasses.
